Design Week 2013 _ My personal selection

Thousand of events are coming! From the 9th untill the 14th, Milan will be packed full of architects, fashion insiders, design lovers, DJs, hipsters and normal-people-that-just-try-to-find-out-what-the-hell-is-going-on!

Honestly, it is completely not easy to select what to do during the most interesting week of the year, so I want to be your personal guide.

For sure, if you are a designer or, at least a designer student, or if you are totally in love with design, you have to go to Fiera Milano City. It will be a real nightmare, because:
- it is ALWAYS too crowded,
- you will pass ALLLOT of time stuck in line,
- it is extended for a HUGE area, that's why you will walk non-stop for kilometers and your feet will bleed,
BUT, most important, at the end of the day, you will be overjoyed and full of ideas for future projects (or just to furnish your living room, since it's so damn cheesy!). Btw, if you feel strong enough to go there, do not miss "I wood like...", an interesting lab in which they will show you how wood is processed, from the raw material to the finished product.

If you are a food lover, do not miss "Food & Design". During this special event, you can have the opportunity to taste some innovative food creations done by the best Chefs. Just to give some example, you can taste the exquisite spicy cous cous with aromatic herbals, apricots and pumpkins done by Alice Delcourt (from "Erba Brusca", the restaurant where I tasted the best hamburger of my life) or a very special focaccia di Recco done with raw beef. Remember, you can taste all for free, but you need to register here: http://atcasa.corriere.it/Speciali/food-design/homepage.shtml

Then, let's move to Tortona district! So, first of all, I suggest a quick visit to the new exposition area of Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, that will open tomorrow, 9th April. The opening will take place in Via Vigevano 9 at 16h:

Then, let's go to Superstudio Più, a temporary museum for new design. 10,000 square meters of exhibition space, wi-fi everywhere and, for this 2013 edition, starred dinner with Fabio Baldassarre from Unico restaurant in Milan.

Use this link to register to the event: http://www.superstudiogroup.com/e/625/news/register-online.html

and book here your exclusive food experience at Dada Cafè: http://www.superstudiogroup.com/e/626/news/starred-dinner-at-superstudio.html

Then, again, let's walk in Via Tortona, let's visit all the design spaces, let's buy a special vase done by a swedish archistar or a new pair of jelly shoes at Melissa's store, let's buy a piece of furniture online while you are visiting Opificio 31 ("eBay Living" event, Via Tortona 31),  let's get some drinks, for example at God Save The Food. Because of the Design Week, they will offer a special menu:

The 12th of April is "Brera Design Night", which means that the most of the design stores in Brera district will stay open till late. I'm talking about: Agape12, Black Tie, Brix, Code + Salamanca Design & Co, Dedar + Hermès, Designjunction, Lomography Gallery Store Milan and much more. Allot of people, music and special events are expected.

If you feel a bit intellectual during this days, you need to take a sit at the conference: "Fare artigianale, pensare industriale". On Saturday 12th April, the conference will take place at Triennale di Milano at 12 h.

In Triennale you will also have the chance to see the exposition "Fare è pensare" about Pierluigi Ghianda, concerning the woodworking art. He is a great ebonist and he supported the work of great designers, such as Gio Ponti, Gae Aulenti and Castiglioni's brothers.

Tuesday 9th April, at 10 h, Università degli Studi di Milano: Steven Holl presents the lectio magistralis entitled "Time Light". Do not miss it.

If you have the time, walk down Via Montenapoleone. If you will be careful enough, you will notice that, behind all that fashion clothes and sexy shoes, there will be also a design installation waiting for you. Be ready with your iPhone, so that you will be the first instagram photographer of the day!

While you are in the central area of Milan, take one hour to go to Rinascente, where you can admire "Afrofuture", the event that will show you an other side of this continent, through its design. From Tuestay until Sunday.

If you are a festival fan, Design Week is made for you: every single night more than one concert will take place. Yes, there are some free events, but in my opinion is much better to pay and get the best party in town, since there will be really big names at Franco Parenti Theater. I'm talking about Woodkid, Mos Def, John Talabot, Villalobos... People, let's make some noise!

Take a look even to the complete program of Elita Festival and, expecially, enjoy the Q21 and Tunnel's schedule.

And, if you would like to rest on Sunday, why don't you go to a relaxing classical concert at Società Umanitaria?

Considering how much kilometers you will walk this days, enjoy this Instagram.

Walking Class, Milan

T.L.B.J.

Just a short selection of images, showing the inner beauty of this timeless piece of art done by Chanel.
In Berlin, setting of this exposition was a former subway station below Postdamer Platz: corresponding to Berlin's alternative scene, Chanel literally decided to go underground. Why install the rambling exhibition in a glossy venue, when you can have the perfect cool dark place?
Here in Milan, the exposition is done in Rotonda della Besana. This late baroque building complex was a cemetery in the past and now it is consider one of the most romantic and suggestive location for expositions. Even when this exhibition will be over (20th of April) and expecially when the sun will be strongly present in Milan, if you have time to walk in the area next to Porta Romana, grab a book with you and lie down in the green area surrounding the construction.

I'm back!

After months and months of absence, I'm back!
I'm not living in Berlin anymore and I'm not a bohemian student anymore: now I'm in Milan and I'm working as a journalist for a specialized magazine. I'm fullfilling the dream of my life, finally!
But I don't want to talk about me: the fashionsphere is so much more interesting!
So, I'm back to tell you that the Design Week is coming here in Milan... Just a few days and there will be so much cool events!
Btw, today we will have a lil taste of it: Chanel, The Little Black Jacket, BOOOOOM! Yes, this special exposition is def following me!
The opening was yesterday and today, at 18h, everybody here in Milan can see how was re-interpretate the iconic black jacket done by Mademoiselle. Of course I will go there and of course I will post some pics...
So, remember: the best is yet to come!

The Little Black Jacket

Why Berlin is cool?
Often I am not really able to answer this question...

But, then, I found myself in Potsdamer Platz and, to be more accurate, in the tunnel of the U3. And everything is clear, once again.

Now there are just stunning pictures of the best actresses, models, DJs, designers of the world, but, less than a week ago, Karl was here with the very best of the stars system.
In the middle of all this: "The Little Black Jacket", one of Chanel's most iconic pieces.

Great exposition. Suggestive location. Timeless object of desire.

Goldener Oktober

Last days of magic weather here in Berlin.
Babies are playing under the sun, wearing comfy clothes at the playground.

Karaoke at Mauerpark

Pictures taken from a late summer afternoon spent at Mauerpark in Berlin.

Here, every Sunday, from 15 to 17 or 19 (depending on the sunset), from March to October, there are always thousand people waiting for the show, directed by Joe Hatchiban, an Irish guy, usually dressed with a cool baseball cap, a pair of distressed jeans and a plain t-shirt, that always gives you the impression that he escapes from a rock concert.

Good singers, bad singers; interesting looks, plain looks… But in the end, just the perfect relaxing Sunday afternoon in Berlin.

Berlin go fashion

Young, creative, cool.

This is Berlin, full of personality and 100% free from the typical fashion conventions. Just go out on the street and you will realize it directly: here it's just impossible to find two people that are dress the same.

Ok, Mitte is more classy; Xberg is more innovative, but in the end everybody in this town has his own idea on what fashion is and they truly follow their feelings. Here people are creative and open-minded: they just don't care about the typical use of an object, because, surely, they are able to re-invent a new, personal one. In a totally amazing way.

Basically, I'm opening this online space to show the world how people in this town dress and to suggest places where to go buying something special, fashion and stylish. And, why not?, I will suggest even places where to go eatting amazing food and, meantime, to show your last cool outfit and your new bag, like in a fashion show...

So, stay tuned, and remember: "There are no rules, we just have fun!"
